Goals for 2016

Happy New Year!!! Are you as excited as I am to set new goals and start fresh.  I know I probably wont' get passed January 5th but hey its fun to try!

A good deed I'm going to do: Donate my time to others... I love to come home from school and curl up in my comfy chair and hide after a long day of school but this year I'm going to come out of my comfort zone and make myself available for some service.

A new skill I'm going to learn: I need to improve my networking techniques so my TPT business will do better.  This is my year!! It's going to happen.

A book I'd like to read: Scriptures! I love reading the scriptures but I just don't make time for them... everything else comes first.  So this year I'm going to prioritize!

A bad habit I'm going to break: I LOVE to drink Coke especially in a tall cup with ice!  Lately I've been really overdoing it so I've at least got to cut down on my intake!!

I'm going to do better at: Exercising.... confession.... I HATE to exercise.  But I've got to do it! This is the year.  Ugh!

A person I hope to be more like: Myself!  I tend to envy those who are successful and compare myself to them.  I need to focus on what my style is and develop that.

We Miss our Ms. Monroe!

On my student teacher's last day we did some fun rotations about her!  One of them was to write why she was such a special teacher on the back of an apple cut out, then tape the apple to a stick and put it in the pot with beans. It made a cute apple bouquet.   Another was a poster that said, "A Great Teacher Is..." and the students wrote characteristics of a great teacher.  And still another rotation was writing a letter to a principal telling why he or she should hire our student teacher.  The last rotation was getting to play a game of Tenzi with our student teacher.  It was a fun day and the kids loved getting to send her off with these fun activities.

We just had to get one last big hug in before she left!

Math Facts Practice

My students LOVE to go to the "Math Facts" center and use The Teacher Wife's math fact strips to practice their facts.  They take turns being in charge of starting the one-minute timer and try to be the first group to practice all nine of the fact in one rotation. They've never made it yet but its really good practice for them.  Next time we're going to start with the nines and move towards the ones so I make sure they get practice with those nines that seem to cause so much trouble!

Batty Over Regrouping

My class has been working very hard on learning how to add two and three digit numbers with regrouping.  They did a great job!  In the end I decided we would do something really fun using the Halloween theme so I created "Batty Over Regrouping".  You can make the bats using white or black construction paper, it just depends on whether you want your students to color or not.  This activity took my students between 30 and 40 minutes to complete so allow enough time! Happy Halloween!

You can buy this craft for $2.00 in my Teacher's Pay Teacher's store by clicking here.
