Last year was the first year I had a "Monster Theme" to my classroom.  My class loved it!  We made monsters and did monster writings the first week of school to get into the spirit of the theme. At Back to School night my students were thrilled to see what our theme was for the year!!

Summer Vacation Pop Up Book

This is a great activity to have your students work on the last full week of school.  It usually takes my students a full week to complete the six modes of travel.  

My students love to pretend they are in a canoe headed for an indian village and their family's teepee. 

They also like to pretend they are flying in a space ship to spend the summer on the moon. 

Traveling on a train across country to see the many sites this country has to offer is another fun way to spend the summer.
